Common Q&As

Are you a insured, licensed, and certified contractor?

Ruth Roofing is fully insured with $2M in liability coverage for all roof replacements and repairs. We are licensed to operate in Ontario and follow all safety regulations and roofing requirements outlined in the Ontario building code. Our installers are trained, experienced, and follow industry best practices and manufacturer guidelines to ensure your roof is installed to the highest standard.

How much does roof replacement cost in Ontario in 2026? What affects the price?

Roof replacement costs in Ontario can vary depending on the size of job, roof design, existing roof condition, choice of shingle brand, other material types, and customer's objectives and budget.

  • Roof size and complexity: Larger roofs or homes with architectural variations - such as skylights, chimneys, multiple gables, hips, and valleys - require more flashing, ice & water shield, and labor to complete the roof properly.

  • Roof pitch: Steeper roofs require additional safety equipment, setup, and are much more labor intensive to install, which increases installation costs.

  • Existing roof condition: Roofs with solid decking, proper ventilation, and existing flashing in good shape typically require fewer materials and less labor, reducing your quote.

  • Material Quality: Premium underlayments, upgraded shingles, and higher end ventilation or flashing systems will increase total product cost.

  • Homeowner preferences and goals: After understanding your needs, preferred brands, and budget, we simplify the decision making process by offering three clear roofing tiers customized to your roof and preferences. Each tier includes the best materials and features for its price point, so you can choose the level of quality and protection that matches your goals and budget.

How quickly can I get a roofing estimate, what is the process, and what is included?

Our roof replacement and repair estimates are 100% free, honest, and with no-obligation.

We are booking initial estimates within days of your initial contact, depending on your availability.

1) On Site Inspection: For a replacement estimate, we start with an inspection of your current roof to determine:

  • Whether a replacement is necessary

  • Identify the scope of work

  • Take precise measurements of your roof

2) Discuss Goals and Preferences: After the inspection is complete, we meet with you to understand

  • Your goals and budget

  • Color and brand preference (if any)

  • Any concerns or priorities for your new roof

3) Building Your Tiered Estimate

Using everything learned during the inspection and discussion, we prepare a three tiered estimate at different price points and quality levels. We walk you through:

  • Differences between each tier

  • Key considerations based on your budget and priorities

  • Material options and performance levels

4) Delivering Your Quote

Once everything is reviewed:

  • We prepare and deliver all quotes

  • Provide photos of your current roof

  • Give you time to decide which roof system is right for you.

If you choose to move forward, we will send you a contract and schedule your replacement. This entire process is free, transparent, honest, and zero pressure.

How long does a roof replacement take from start to finish?

From the time you approve the quote, we aim to complete your roof replacement as quickly and efficiently as possible.

  • We have completed roof replacements in under a week from quote to installation when scheduling and weather allow.

  • Our goal is to complete all jobs within 1-4 weeks from receiving a signed contract, with the ideal turnaround being 1-2 weeks

  • During peak roofing season (late spring and to early fall), scheduling times can extend slightly due to higher demand.

  • Once installation begins, most standard asphalt shingle roofs are finished in one day, with large or complex roofs taking two days or more. You will be told beforehand how long we expect the replacement to take.

What warranties come with a new asphalt shingle roof?

Your new roof comes with two types of warranty protection: the manufacturer's product warranty and our installation warranty.

1. Manufacturer's Warranty

The exact coverage depends on the brand and quality level of shingle you choose. Higher-grade shingles come with longer warranty periods, higher wind resistance ratings, and less likelihood of manufacturer defects.

2. Ruth Roofing Installation Warranty

Every roof we install includes a 5-year workmanship warranty, covering any installation related issues at no cost to you.

In addition, we offer:

  • Priority service for returning customers

  • 15% off any repairs for damage from windstorms, hail, ice, or falling debris ("act of God" events)

    • Repairs for significant damage are typically handled through home insurance, but we ensure our past customers receive first-priority for scheduling, quoting, and repair services.

What are common signs my roof needs to be replaced?

There are a few signs that your roof is nearing the end of its life, or needs replacement immediately.

High risk and replace or repair immediately if:

  • Active leaks inside the home

  • Missing shingles in multiple areas

  • Shingles curling, cracking, or cupping across large sections

  • Soft or spongy roof decking

  • Significant granule loss

  • Sagging areas of the roof

  • Wind damage leaving underlayment visible

  • Widespread mold or algae growth caused by moisture trapped beneath the shingles

  • If roof decking/sheathing has visible water damage or rot when viewed from the attic

Plan to replace soon if you notice:

  • Shingles are starting to lose granules (but not bare yet)

  • Small areas of cracking or curling shingles

  • Minor leaks that can be temporarily patched

  • Ridge caps showing early signs of deterioration

  • Discoloration or streaking from age

  • Your asphalt shingles are 18-25 years old (depending on quality of shingles and current ventilation)

  • Multiple spot repairs over the past few years

  • Your roof looks worn compared to neighboring homes of a similar age

What permits are needed to get a roof replaced in Ontario?

At Ruth Roofing, most of our roofing replacements do not require any building permits. This is only the case if you are replacing the existing materials with the same type (ex. old asphalt shingles being replaced with new shingles) and when there is no altering of the roof structure.

No permit for:

  • Replacing old asphalt shingles with new shingles

  • Replacing underlayment, ice/water shield, and flashing

  • Replacing ventilation

  • Doing minor sheathing repairs

  • Doing maintenance repairs (ex. roof leak repair, replacing a few shingles, etc.)

A permit is required for (structural changes):

  • Replacing large sections of roof sheathing

  • Replacing or modifying rafters and trusses

  • Changing the roof pitch

  • Changing the roof structure (adding dormers, skylights that require structural framing changes)

The only time our company runs into the need for a building permit is for a large scale roof sheathing/decking replacement. We do not offer services to alter or make structural changes to any roof or attic but would be happy to help you find a contractor that can assist you.

How do you ensure old nails and debris are cleaned up after installation?

We take a proactive, multi step approach to keep your property safe and clean throughout the entire roofing process.

1. Preparation and Protection

Before work begins, we move or cover anything that could be damaged including patio furniture, vehicles, and garden-related items. We also tarp landscaping and key areas around your home to catch falling debris.

2. Clean-As-We-Go Process

As we remove your old shingles, flashing, and underlayment, all materials go directly into our company bin. Packaging from new shingles is also bagged immediately. This keeps your yard clean and prevents debris from spreading.

3. Thorough Final Cleanup

Once installation is complete, we perform a detailed cleanup:

  • Remove any leftover shingles, packaging, and materials

  • Clear your gutters of nails and small shingle pieces

  • Take down tarps and double check perimeter for missed debris

  • Use a professional magnet roller across your driveway, yard, and walkways to pick up stray nails.

A typical roof can contain 2000 - 10,000+ nails, and our multi step process ensures they are safely removed. If anything slips past the tarps, our magnet roller will pick it up. Our process leaves your home clean, safe, and free of debris.

Do you offer emergency roof repair after storms or leaks?

Yes, we provide emergency repairs for roofs that have experienced storm damage or leaks. It is critical to have someone on your roof accurately identifying and fixing leaks and damage to prevent unnecessary damage to the inside of your home. In most cases this is covered by your home insurance (please check with your provider). Please call us at 1-226-218-7270 to get immediate assistance for leaks or storm damage.

What financing options are available for a new roof?

There are several financing options available if you prefer not to pay for your roof up front. The most common and cost effective option is a Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC). HELOCs typically offer the lowest interest rates, flexible repayment terms, and straightforward approvals through your bank.

Another option is working with a third party financing company such as FinanceIt or 360Lending, which can provide structured payment plans specifically for home improvements like roofing.

We always recommend comparing multiple financing options to secure the lowest interest rate and best overall terms. In most cases, a HELOC or third part lender provide the best value for homeowners.
